TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:

My mixology journey started years ago when I went to a restaurant in NYC and ordered their signature cocktail. I asked the bartender to show me how to make it and as he prepared the cocktail we talked about mixology and spirits. I immediately bought a cocktail shaker and started making cocktails for family and friends. In order to expand my repertoire, I began researching cocktail recipes and started experimenting with different ingredients. My home bar slowly took shape as I acquired tools, spirits, and bitters. In order to broaden my knowledge and learn proper techniques, I took a several mixology classes at Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in NYC. My family urged me to open an Instagram account to share cocktail recipes and Spirited Marilita was born.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT PROJECTS?

One of my projects is to visit local distilleries to learn about their sprits, process ,and source of innovative ingredients. I am an avid supporter of local farms and distilleries and have met the most amazing people who are passionate about their craft. I will usually post about a new distillery and their products to create awareness to their brand. Other projects that I am working on is launching my blog and creating original recipes for several brands.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE YOU HAVE COME UP WITH USING AN ACC PRODUCT? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?

La Fiesta Cocktail was inspired by my love of tequila and making refreshing fruity cocktails. For this cocktail I paired ACC’s Watermelon Mojito with tequila and fruit soda. Very easy to make and so delicious.

WHEN YOU ARE COMING UP WITH NEW DISHES OR DRINKS, DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE(S) FOR INSPIRATION?

Inspiration is everywhere! A new spirit or mixer, an interesting fruit or vegetable at the supermarket, books, and industry trends. A major source of inspiration comes from my fellow mixologists, local bars, and my followers. I am very fortunate to be part of this amazing community where I have found kindred spirits who are passionate about their craft and who love to share ideas, recipes, techniques, and tips. I find inspiration in my garden where I plant an abundant source of herbs and edible flowers to pick for my cocktails. This is very important to me because I like to use fresh ingredients in my cocktails and I love to infuse spirits, make syrups, and juices

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT OR BAR, WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK DO YOU RECOMMEND IT, AND WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE CAN A VISITOR EXPECT?

My favorite bar is Amaro in NYC. One of the fondest memories I have is chatting with Sother Teage at the bar while sipping one of his delicious cocktails.

WHAT INFO ABOUT COCKTAILS DO MOST PEOPLE MAKING DRINKS AT HOME NOT KNOW THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO THEM?

When you go to a bar make sure to ask the bartender plenty of questions about the ingredients in the cocktail you are sipping it is a fantastic way to learn. Always chill your cocktail glasses and use fresh ingredients whenever possible.

WHAT TRENDS (either local or industrywide) ARE YOU NOTICING TAKING SHAPE AND HOW?

There are a lot of new trends and exciting things happening in the world of mixology. There is a profusion new products and cocktails using infusions and unexpected ingredients. There is a trend to create visually impacting cocktails with unusual garnishes and glassware. I love glasses and will find any excuse to acquire new ones (I am known for my glassware collection). I believe that cocktail presentation is as important as the ingredients. Cocktails should be crafted with care and attention to detail with quality ingredients and a beautiful presentation. For me a cocktail is a journey in a glass that will take you to unexpected places, delight the senses, and create wonderful memories.
