WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE YOU HAVE COME UP WITH USING AN AJC PRODUCT? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?
One of my favorite sci fi movies is the fifth element and I had been trying to come up with a drink for sometime. It was at cocktails in the country 2.0 where it all came together and the AJC Harriet Peacher Stowe was what sealed the deal. Recipe Below :)
The Fifth Element
I named this in tribute to my favorite Milla Jovovich movie. I wanted it to match Leeloo’s hair-ginger two ways and lemon two ways. The peach and ginger complement the honey and citrus notes in the scotch, the egg white adds to the creaminess with just enough sweetness.
1.5 oz (45 ml) Highland Park 12-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
.25 oz (7.5 ml) The American Juice Company’s Ginger Gershwin
.25 oz (7.5 ml) The American Juice Company’s Harriet Peacher Stowe
.25 oz (7.5 ml) fresh lemon juice 1 egg white Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, as rinse
1 lemon twist, as garnish
Dry shake, then add ice and shake vigorously. Chill a cocktail glass and rinse with liqueur. Strain the cocktail and add the garnish.
WHEN YOU ARE COMING UP WITH NEW DRINKS, DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE(S) FOR INSPIRATION?
A lot of the time I use movies and favorite shows for inspiration, also balancing and trying new flavors together. It is all about innovation and new techniques in a world where a lot of people are coming up with delicious new recipes I am learning each day.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BAR, WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK DO YOU RECOMMEND IT, AND WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE CAN A VISITOR EXPECT?
Backbar, Somerville, Ma I only have sun, mon, tues off any of those days, if you love star wars, craft cocktails, velociraptors, and amazing bartenders this is the place for you. It is hidden down an alley through a long hallway. They have creative seasonal cocktails, a different milk punch every week, and I love Sam and Mel. Here is the link for you http://backbarunion.com
WHAT INFO ABOUT COCKTAILS DO MOST PEOPLE MAKING DRINKS AT HOME NOT KNOW THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO THEM?
They need to know to have a jigger and the recipe should show both oz and ml metric (international) try different variations of each drink a little more of this a little less of this, glassware, buying a few cocktail books is never a bad idea either (joy of mixology, dead rabbit grocery & grog, smuggler's cove, flavor bible)
