IN THE SPIRIT FEATURING: Shelby Sorrel, Social Media Strategist

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:

I run the Instagram account, Shelby Sorrel, and have built my brand around Austin's diverse and thriving culinary scene. As a local Austinite, I have had the privilege of seeing the city boom with new restaurants and fun spots. My passion for photography, people, and food sprouted into a fun, bright Instagram feed where I share everything from food to colorful murals that Austin has to offer. When I’m not running my personal Instagram, I am an accomplished Social Media Strategist who has managed some of Austin’s top culinary and retail institutions.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT PROJECTS?

Lately, I have been working on upping my blog game -- I am currently working on a few blog posts from recent trips, as well as a blog post of the best old fashioned in Austin. I am also working on developing my presets for purchase.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE YOU HAVE COME UP WITH USING AN ACC PRODUCT? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?

I wanted to create a Mango Margarita for the month of May, because margaritas are a big deal in Texas, and are perfect for the beginning of Summer. I decided it would be a fun way to welcome in a new season! My recipe is:

1.5 ounces of tequila

1 ounce of Mexican Mango Mixer

Orange-flavored margarita salt

Lime Juice

Dried Lime Wheel

Preparation: 1. Put some of the orange-flavored margarita salt in a small dish. Apply lime juice to the rim of the cocktail glass (slide a lime wedge around the rim for easy application!) Dip the rim of your cocktail glass in the salt.

2. Fill the glass with ice.

3. Add tequila and the Mexican Mango mixer into the cocktail shaker and shake.

4. Strain the mix over the ice in the prepared glass.

5. Add lime juice to taste.

6. Garnish with the lime wheel and serve it.

WHEN YOU ARE COMING UP WITH NEW DISHES OR DRINKS, DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE(S) FOR INSPIRATION?

I have been experimenting with creating more fun cocktails at home, and have realized that I tend to make them up as I go. I do, however, love having good recipes to use so I can guarantee that it will actually be drinkable, and tend to go to Instagram for inspiration when trying to come up with a tasty cocktail.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT OR BAR, WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK DO YOU RECOMMEND IT, AND WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE CAN A VISITOR EXPECT?

My favorite restaurant is Hanks and I recommend it every day of the week, of course (although Mondays are half price burgers and Tuesday is half off bottles of wine!). You can expect a beautiful space, a spacious patio, delicious food, and one hell of a spicy margarita.

WHAT INFO ABOUT COCKTAILS DO MOST PEOPLE MAKING DRINKS AT HOME NOT KNOW THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO THEM?

Don't be afraid to experiment! If the drink isn't perfect, you can keep trying until you get it just right.
